The brief was to convert a paper mill in Taunton into a functional day centre for both children and young adults with special requirements. For parents, the prospect of choosing the right school is complex so the first challenge for rischegroup was to design an environment which met with their needs.
Every item within the school had to be strong and hard-wearing, meaning our team had to source the appropriete materials when it came to the furniture and decor. Advanced Childcare provides its services to a broad range of children and young adults so rischegroup had to make sure the colour palette was neutral to provide a calming environment throughout.
Over a 14-week period, rischegroup carried out the full interior design and refurbishment of the mill and also handled all of the school and office furniture requirements. The larger tasks within the project included installing a catering training facility, a WC fit-out and a complete upgrade of the incoming mains power supply.
The work didn’t stop inside. rischegroup took care of external groundworks such as installing concrete walkways for easy access, tarmacking the parking areas and adding high-security fencing around the mill’s parameter. Our team also guided the installation of chicken coops and sheds so the children could spend time outdoors.
The project was completed on-time (despite a delay to the start date due to flooding in the area) and to budget with the team at Advanced Childcare absolutely delighted with the results.
